Oftentimes, it is said that the presence of a butterfly serves as a symbolic sign sent from loved ones who have gained their wings. Butterflies are remarkable reminders that although our loved ones’ presence can no longer be felt physically, their spirit is one that is everlasting. Aside from joining the Miss Black USA organization for the ways in which it uplifts and empowers women of color, I also felt called to do so through their fervent support of and partnership with the American Heart Association.
On July 3rd, 2017, the sweet soul of a special butterfly ascended to the heavens due to a vicious heart disease. Although his heart was ailing, his love and light continuously radiated amongst those who were blessed enough to be in his presence. His charming smile and infectious laughter were filled with the utmost joy – automatically brightening anyone’s day. Andwele French was the epitome of what it means to live fearlessly, laugh ferociously, and love relentlessly. He did everything in his power to exemplify The Butterfly Effect with every waking moment of his life – impacting those around him with the essence of his being. He lived and breathed being of service to others, even if that meant having little to no strength for himself. As a result of Andwele’s resilience and perseverance, I would like to dedicate my reign as Miss Black KY USA in his honor.
Any donations you find in your heart to give will go towards all that is needed in order for me to represent not only the Commonwealth of Kentucky, but also the ethereal spirit of Andwele at the National Competition. It will also allow me to donate funds to the American Heart Association with hopes of enabling Andwele’s giving spirit to have an everlasting life. It is said that the presence of a butterfly serves as a symbolic sign sent from loved ones who have gained their wings; I hope you find it in your heart to assist me in spreading The Butterfly Effect to those who are in need in honor of Andwele L. French.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration,
